En quina posici\u00f3 hem de col\u00b7locar barreres de contenci\u00f3 per aturar un abocament t\u00f2xic? On hem de buscar un veler a la deriva? Ens caldr\u00e0 un vestit sec per bussejar dem\u00e0? Totes aquestes q\u00fcestions es poden resoldre d\u2019una manera cada vegada m\u00e9s precisa i fiable, gr\u00e0cies a la ci\u00e8ncia i al desenvolupament de models de predicci\u00f3 oce\u00e0nica.<\/p>\n<p> El moviment d\u2019un fluid es descriu mitjan\u00e7ant equacions matem\u00e0tiques que depenen del vent, la pressi\u00f3 atmosf\u00e8rica, la radiaci\u00f3 solar, la mateixa viscositat del fluid, la for\u00e7a de la gravetat i fins i tot de la latitud a la qual ens trobem. La implementaci\u00f3 de totes aquestes equacions matem\u00e0tiques en llenguatge computacional i les seves solucions es tradueix en el que es coneix com a \u2018models num\u00e8rics\u2019. El fet que tant l\u2019aire com l\u2019aigua siguin fluids (un, gas\u00f3s, i l\u2019altre, l\u00edquid) dona lloc a l\u2019exist\u00e8ncia de models atmosf\u00e8rics i oce\u00e0nics respectivament, encara que a causa de la complexitat de l\u2019oce\u00e0 i al seu desconeixement, els models oce\u00e0nics no es van comen\u00e7ar a desenvolupar fins a la d\u00e8cada dels anys seixanta, quaranta anys despr\u00e9s dels primers models per pronosticar el temps atmosf\u00e8ric.<\/p>\n<p> Actualment, un dels principals reptes de l\u2019oceanografia \u00e9s predir el temps oce\u00e0nic de manera an\u00e0loga a com es fa amb el temps atmosf\u00e8ric, seguint per a aix\u00f2 molts dels aven\u00e7os aconseguits en les ci\u00e8ncies atmosf\u00e8riques. No obstant aix\u00f2, la dificultat de monitoritzar el medi mar\u00ed, tant en l\u2019espai com en el temps, condiciona la disponibilitat de dades per fer prediccions. Gr\u00e0cies a l\u2019aven\u00e7 tecnol\u00f2gic, actualment tenim diversos instruments de recollida de dades (planadors submarins, radars, boies oceanogr\u00e0fiques, sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits, etc.) per monitoritzar l\u2019oce\u00e0: \u00e9s el que coneixem com a \u2018perspectiva multiplataforma\u2019.<\/p>\n<p> En aquest context, l\u2019equip de modelitzaci\u00f3 num\u00e8rica i predicci\u00f3 del <a href=\"http:\/\/medclic.es\/ca\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">projecte MEDCLIC<\/a>, impulsat per la <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ciencia.gob.es\/portal\/site\/MICINN\/ICTS\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">ICTS<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/socib.es\/?language=ca_ES\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Sistema d\u2019Observaci\u00f3 i Predicci\u00f3 Costaner de les Illes Balears<\/a> (SOCIB) i l\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/obrasociallacaixa.org\/ca\/investigacion-y-becas\/investigacion-ciencias-vida-salud\/salud-y-medio-ambiente\/el-mediterraneo-en-un-clic\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Obra Social \u201dla Caixa\u201d<\/a>, ha millorat les prediccions aplicant una nova metodologia importada de les ci\u00e8ncies atmosf\u00e8riques coneguda com a \u2018assimilaci\u00f3 de dades\u2019. Aquesta t\u00e8cnica consisteix a aconseguir prediccions oce\u00e0niques m\u00e9s precises, incorporant als models oce\u00e0nics dades reals obtingudes a trav\u00e9s d\u2019instruments oceanogr\u00e0fics i fent-los convergir cap a aquests valors. D\u2019aquesta manera s\u2019impedeix que els models derivin cap a prediccions err\u00f2nies (veure figura 1).<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.caixaresearch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/ca\/Medclic_blog2.jpg\" style=\"width: 400px; height: 223px;\"\/><br \/> <span style=\"font-size:11px;\">Figura 1. Els models amb assimilaci\u00f3 de dades (verd) s\u2019ajuden d\u2019observacions per produir prediccions m\u00e9s realistes, \u00e9s a dir, m\u00e9s properes a les observacions reals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p> Per aix\u00f2, han d\u2019experimentar pr\u00e8viament amb diferents grups d\u2019observacions obtingudes directament del mar a trav\u00e9s dels instruments oceanogr\u00e0fics que formen el sistema multiplataforma del SOCIB, per determinar amb quin es produeixen els millors resultats. En aquest proc\u00e9s es t\u00e9 en compte el balan\u00e7 entre el consum computacional, la despesa econ\u00f2mica de les pr\u00f2pies observacions i la millora dels resultats.<\/p>\n<p> Un d\u2019aquests experiments ha estat publicat fa poc a la revista internacional \u2018Ocean Science\u2019. L\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocean-sci.net\/14\/1069\/2018\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> ha tingut com a objectiu comparar les sortides (predicci\u00f3) del model denominat WMOP en assimilar, d\u2019una banda, les dades procedents de vuit planadors submarins (\u2018gliders\u2019) i, de l\u2019altra, de les sondes de Conductivitat, Temperatura i Profunditat (CTD, per les sigles en angl\u00e8s).<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.caixaresearch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/ca\/Medclic_blog3.jpg\" style=\"width: 400px; height: 267px;\"\/><\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.caixaresearch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/ca\/Medclic_blog4.jpg\" style=\"width: 400px; height: 267px;\"\/><br \/> <span style=\"font-size:11px;\">Fotos 1 y 2. El planador submar\u00ed (\u2018glider\u2019) i el CTD (Roseta-CTD), dos dels instruments de recollida de dades que formen el sistema multiplataforma del SOCIB per monitoritzar l\u2019oce\u00e0, durant un experiment d\u2019assimilaci\u00f3 de dades.<\/span><\/p>\n<p> L\u2019article destaca com el sistema desenvolupat \u00e9s capa\u00e7 d\u2019ingerir la informaci\u00f3 de les dues fonts d\u2019observaci\u00f3 a diferents escales, i conclou que tant les observacions subministrades per vuit \u2018gliders\u2019 com per les sondes CTD redueixen l\u2019error de les prediccions en un 40 %. Aix\u00ed mateix, recomana l\u2019\u00fas dels planadors submarins enfront de sondes CTD ja que, tot i que proporcionen els mateixos resultats, aquesta tecnologia permet transmetre dades en temps real i es pot pilotar des de terra, caracter\u00edstiques que la fan m\u00e9s eficient.<\/p>\n<p> Aquest tipus d\u2019experiments s\u00f3n essencials a l\u2019hora de dissenyar plans estrat\u00e8gics de futur, necessaris per continuar millorant el desenvolupament de models oce\u00e0nics de predicci\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p> Actualment, i basant-nos en resultats d\u2019experiments anteriors, el SOCIB ja t\u00e9 una versi\u00f3 en proves d\u2019un model predictiu en el qual l\u2019assimilaci\u00f3 de dades s\u2019ha incorporat fent servir dades de sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits i de <a href=\"http:\/\/medclic.es\/ca\/instrumentos\/plataformas-lagrangianas\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">boies ARGO<\/a>. Aquesta versi\u00f3 s\u2019ha fet servir de manera exitosa els \u00faltims mesos, demostrant m\u00e9s precisi\u00f3 i fiabilitat del model WMOP.<\/p>\n<p> Com a exemples aplicats, podem esmentar la planificaci\u00f3 de la campanya del <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onr.navy.mil\/en\/Science-Technology\/Departments\/Code-32\/All-Programs\/Atmosphere-Research-322\/Physical-Oceanography\/CALYPSO-DRI\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">projecte internacional CALYPSO<\/a>, on l\u2019assimilaci\u00f3 de dades va ajudar a determinar les zones de mostreig m\u00e9s favorables i l\u2019assessorament per tra\u00e7ar la traject\u00f2ria m\u00e9s \u00f2ptima en la qual els corrents no impedissin la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diariodeibiza.es\/deportes\/2018\/07\/28\/tita-llorens-pasa-historia-hazana\/1004542.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">nadadora Tita Llorens assolir el seu repte<\/a> de creuar nedant el Canal d\u2019Eivissa.<\/p>\n<p> <strong>MEDCLIC, b\u00e0sic per investigar processos oce\u00e0nics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> Des del 2014, el projecte MEDCLIC estudia els processos oce\u00e0nics de la Mediterr\u00e0nia combinant dades del mar obtingudes a trav\u00e9s de diversos instruments oceanogr\u00e0fics del SOCIB, amb observacions de sat\u00e8l\u00b7lit, i desenvolupant models oce\u00e0nics, eines essencials per predir el comportament dels oceans i els seus impactes.<\/p>\n<p> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/198WqZ3p4aU\" width=\"400\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/body><\/html><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p> Post de Eva Aguiar, investigadora, i Ana Bonilla, del Servei d\u2019Educaci\u00f3 i Divulgaci\u00f3, projecte MEDCLIC-SOCIB.<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.caixaresearch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/ca\/Medclic_blog1.jpg\" style=\"width: 400px; height: 286px;\"\/><br \/> El sistema multiplataforma del <a href=\"http:\/\/socib.es\/?language=ca_ES\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">SOCIB<\/a> monitoritza el Mediterrani occidental.<\/p>\n<p> Hi ha zones d\u2019acumulaci\u00f3 de pl\u00e0stics a la Mediterr\u00e0nia?
